Surrey and Vancouver congratulate the City of Montreal

The City of Montreal  has been awarded the top prize of $50 million for their submission to Infrastructure Canada as part of the Smart Cities Challenge , a nationwide competition encouraging cities to share their best ideas to improve the lives of their residents through innovation, data, and connected technology.

Vancouver and Surrey reached the top prize category alongside Edmonton, Quebec City, and the Waterloo Region.

Vancouver and Surrey’s #SmarterTogether submission was a bold vision to create Canada’s first two collision-free, multi-modal transportation corridors, leveraging autonomous vehicles and smart technologies to demonstrate a path to safer, healthier, and more socially connected communities.

What’s next

Both cities continue to be excited about the opportunities ahead as we implement our localized smart cities strategies, vision zero programs, and other important transportation, smart mobility, and innovation key initiatives and programs.

Surrey and Vancouver believe that this challenge demonstrated that “together”, they are leading the way and setting the standard for other cities in Canada to follow for smart mobility.
